Broken Bow School Board schedules special meeting/work session Monday

December 5, 2011

The Broken Bow School Board's special meeting will be Dec. 5 beginning at 6 p.m.

The Broken Bow School Board has a special work session/board meeting planned for Monday, Dec. 5, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Board Room at Broken Bow High School. The selection process for a new superintendent and the roof concept for North Park Elementary are included on the agenda.

Community and staff input is currently being sought as the Broken Bow School Board begins its search for a new superintendent. The Nebraska Association of School Boards has been contracted to help with the procedure. The position will begin July 1, 2012.

Since July 2010, the position has been filled by interim superintendent Dr. Virginia Moon.

“A local school superintendent plays a critical role in shaping and leading a school district, and also fills an important leadership role in the community,” said School Board President Michelle Zlomke. “This is a great opportunity for the staff and community to help determine what we should be looking for as we conduct our superintendent search. It’s so important to have a broad, accurate perspective from everyone as we select the candidate who will provide long-term educational leadership for Broken Bow and its children.”

To participate in the search process, patrons can access a short survey on the NASB website. The web address for the survey is http://www.nasbonline.org/portal/superintendentSearch/SuperintendentSear....

The questions on the survey are:
1)What are the strengths and achievements of the school district and community?
2)What critical issues will the school face in the next three years?
3)What background/training should the new superintendent possess?
4)What leadership style/personal attributes must the new superintendent possess?

Alternately, people may drop a note directly at the school with their responses, attention Alberta Crawley, Broken Bow Schools, 323 North 7th Ave., Broken Bow, NE 68822.

Staff and community committees will meet Dec. 5 with NASB’s Marcia Herring to review the survey results. Herring will present the information to the board at the Dec. 5 work session.

The district, through the services of NASB will accept applications until Jan. 3. The board tentatively plans to interview candidates and offer a position in the middle of January.

The meeting’s agenda also includes a discussion with Grant Creager from CG Architects on North Park roof options. Structural engineers have reported that originally planned pitched roof could be very costly because the beams of the current structure will not support the weight. Alternate plans will be presented.
