MULLEN -- The Mullen Broncos are back to their winning ways after suffering their second loss of the season to Class C2 rated North Platte St. Patrickâ€™s 52-44.
The Broncos fell behind early in the first half as they were outscored 15-4 in the first quarter. The Broncos rallied in the second quarter to cut the lead to seven points trailing 28-21 at halftime.
The Broncos came back onto the court after the halftime intermission and scored the first four points to narrow the lead to 28-25. After a St. Patâ€™s time out, the Irish went on a 7-0 scoring run to increase their lead to 10. The third quarter ended with the Irish leading 37-30. The Broncos continued to fight back in the final quarter but the Irish would not allow the Broncos to narrow the margin.
Mullenâ€™s Gabe Connealy was the gameâ€™s high scorer with 23 points. Also scoring for Mullen were Riley Rice with 8 points followed by Jake Spies with 6, Nathan Vinton 5 and Zach Call with 4.
Last Friday, Mullen began their new streak of wins with a 63-36 trouncing over Stapleton/McPherson County. The Broncos jumped out to a 20-7 first quarter advantage and increased their lead to 35-16 at halftime.
The Broncos continued their dominance in the third quarter outscoring the Cyclones 19-9 for a 54-25 lead. The fourth quarter lead allowed the Broncos to get some of the younger players some varsity experience as the game was in control of the Broncos.
Connealy led the Broncos with 19 points followed by Rice with 15, Vinton 8, Call 6, Bryan Gray 6 points with 10 rebounds, Spies with 2 points, Ben Carson 2, Braden Storer 2, Matthew Furrow 2 and Logan Ginkens 1.
Saturday night, the Broncos needed a strong forth quarter to record the comeback win. The Broncos held a slim 19-17 lead at halftime. In the third quarter, Arthur County took the lead from the Broncos and led 33-27 at the quarters end. The Broncos came back strong in the fourth quarter outscoring Arthur County 25-9 to get the 52-42 win.
The Broncos were led in scoring by Connealyâ€™s 19 points followed by Spies with 13, Call 9, Rice 3, Carson 2, Vinton 2, Gray 2 and Storer 2.
South Loup 49
ARNOLD -- The South Loup Bobcats outscored Maxwell 12-9 in the quarter and that 3-point lead held through the final three quarters.
Aaron Stryker led the Bobcats with 13 points, he was closely followed by Chase Schwarz with 11, Zane Ellis 10, Robert Pierce 6, Kyle Potter 6, Taylor Linegar 2 and Drew Bowers 1.
South Loup 70
ARNOLD -- The South Loup Bobcats broke a 29-29 halftime tie against Brady with 24-10 third quarter run. The Bobcats also won the fourth quarter 17-8 for the 70-47 win.
Stryker and Schwarz scored 20 points each to lead the Bobcats. They were followed by Ellis with 7 points, Brent Urbanovsky 6, Pierce 6, Bowers 6, Tanner Cline 2, Eamon Schwarz 2 and Brady Weinman 1.
LITCHFIELD -- The Litchfield Trojans picked up their first win after two disappointing losses to Sandhills/ Thedford and Ravenna. The win was not an easy one however. The SEM Mustangs entered the game winners of eight games and were looking win their ninth last Thursday night.
The game began slowly for both teams with baskets hard to come by. The Mustangs held an 8-6 lead after the first quarter before the Trojans began a scoring run that would give them a 26-17 halftime lead with 20 points in the second quarter.
After the halftime break, it was the Mustangs that began to score more easily closing the Trojan lead to 37-35 after the third quarter. The Mustangs also won the fourth quarter 14-13 but fell one point shy of tying the game.
Tyson Howard led the Trojans with 20 points followed by Nolan Kratzer with 12, Adam Kucera 7, Danny Woolery 4, Nat Schrock 4, Michael Heapy 2 and Kaleb Sekutera 1.
SEMâ€™s Dillan Line led all scores in the game with 26 points, he also grabbed 11 rebounds for the Mustangs. Also scoring for the Mustangs were Lance English with 8 points, John Oâ€™Neill 7, Joe Harshbarger 6 and Brandon Trampe 2.
SUMNER -- The Mustangs fell to 8-5 this season after receiving their second straight loss in three nights. The Mustangs lost 50-28 to Fort Kearny Conference foe Pleasanton last Saturday night.
Pleasanton outscored the Mustangs 15-4 in the second quarter giving them a 24-14 halftime lead. Pleasanton increased their lead 15 points in the third quarter then outscored the Mustangs 11-4 in the fourth quarter the big conference win.
Pleasanton held SEMâ€™s leading scorer, Line, to 8 points. Line was followed in scoring by Trampe with 7 points, Andrey Gallegos 6, English 3, Oâ€™Neill 2 and Harshbarger 2.
LITCHFIELD -- The Trojans proved to be to big for Ansley in the middle, especially with the presence of Kucera roaming under the basket.
Kucera led the Trojans with 24 points, 12 in each quarter. The Trojans also combined for four 3-pointers in the first half leading to a 32-11 lead at halftime.
The Trojans increased the lead in the final two quarters for the 60-31 win.
Howard followed up Kuceraâ€™s 24 points with 12 of his own. Also scoring for the Trojans were Sekutera with 6 points, Kratzer 5, Tyler Snow 4, Sam Reynolds 3, Tanner Snow 2, Woolery 2 and Schrock 2.
Kucera also grabbed 14 boards to lead the Trojans in rebounding.
The Ansley Warriors were led in scoring by Chris Varney with 8 points followed by Brody Focken with 7, Austin Rohde 6, Jesse Mullen 5, Tobey Slingsby 3 and Garett Amsberry 2.
SARGENT -- The Sargent Bulldogs outscored the Ansley Warriors 15-6 in the first quarter and 12-6 in the fourth quarter to pull away for the 49-26 win.
Guy Fenske led the Bulldogs with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Tyke Kozeal scored 7 points for Sargent followed by Ridge Horky with 6, Ryan Mosier 6, Brady Sutton 4, Theo Williams 4 and Jack Gibbens 3.
The Warriors were led by Focken with 8 points and Varney with 7.
North Central 48
SARGENT -- The Bulldogs trailed North Central 23-17 at halftime then took a 34-30 lead after the third quarter only to give it back to North Central in the fourth quarter. North Central outscored the Bulldogs 18-11 in the final quarter for the 48-45 final score.
Fenske, once again, led the Bulldogs with 33 points and 23 rebounds. Kozeal also had 12 rebounds and added a point for Sargent. Also scoring for the Bulldogs were Williams with 4 points, Mosier 3, Sutton 2 and Horky 2.
HYANNIS -- The Sandhills/ Thedford Knights led Hyannis 36-28 after three quarters but it was the Knightsâ€™ 32 point fourth quarter that put the fork in the Longhorns.
Kale Anderson led the Knights with 18 points followed by Tyler Lee with 14, Cole Taylor 14, Trey Spencer 9, Matt McLeod 6, Ty Sierks 5 and AJ Freeman 2.
Lee also grabbed 12 rebounds and Anderson had 6 steals and 6 assists.
THEDFORD -- It did not take long for the Knights to jump ahead of the Anselmo-Merna Coyotes. The Knights scored 20 points in the first quarter followed by 19 in the second while holding the Coyotes to four points in each. The Knightsâ€™ 43-8 first half lead was increased in the third quarter when the Knights outscored the Coyotes 19-11 to take a 62-19 lead.
Anderson led the Knights with 21 points followed by Lee with 17, Coltan Kovarik 10, McLeod 9, Taylor 6, Spencer 4, Sierks 3 and Brady Marten 1. Lee also pulled down 16 rebounds for the Knights.
The Coyotes were led in scoring by Cole Geiser with 10 points followed by Joseph Christen with 9, Dusty Chandler 5, Alecs Rumery 3, Trevor Schipporeit 2 and Gregory Christen 2.
Loup County 31
MERNA -- The Coyotes and Loup County Wildcats struggled early in each quarter scoring 5 points each in the first quarter and 3 each in the third quarter. The Coyotes, though, outscored the Wildcats 17-12 in the second quarter and 17-11 in the fourth quarter for the 42-31 win.
Chandler led the Coyotes with 12 points followed by Geiser with 10, Tyler Evans 7, Trey Gilligan 5, Rumery 4, G. Christen 2 and Ryan Halouska 2.
Loup County was led by Tyler Barta with 9 points followed by Tyrel Hinton with 6, Brandon Barker 5, Justin Stapleman 4, Dylan Strohl-Yeomans 4 and Trey Caldwell 3. Hinton pulled in 11 rebounds for the Wildcats.
North Central 68
Loup County 35
TAYLOR -- The Wildcats had a hard time putting the ball in the basket early as they scored six points in each of the first two quarters while allowing North Central 17 and 23 in each quarter. Leading 40-12 at the half, North Cental increased their lead to 56-20 at the end of the third quarter. The Wildcats finally put a double-digit score in a quarter with 15 in the fourth but lost the game 68-35.
The Wildcats were led by Stapleman with 9 points followed by Barker with 8, Hinton 5, Caldwell 4, Strohl-Yeomans 4, Barta 3 and Andrew Ritchie 2.

North Loup-Scotia 25
ARCADIA -- The Arcadia Huskies outscored North Loup-Scotia in each of the first two quarters for a 23-12 halftime lead. The North Loup-Scotia Wildcats narrowed the lead to seven in the third quarter before the Huskies outscored the Wildcats 9-2 in the final quarter for the 39-25 win.
Michael Chelewski and Brady Chilewski scored 15 points each to lead the Huskies. Matthew Quick added 6 points and Dalton Williams scored 3 in the Arcadia win.
