Broncos return to State after 59 year absence

VALENTINE -- The Mullen boys basketball team is returning to the Boys State Basketball Tournament. The Broncos became the D2-6 district champions defeating Hay Springs 55-52 Tuesday night. Their trip to Lincoln will be the 13th time that the Broncos have qualified for the State Tournament and the first since 1952.

The Broncos scored 33 first half points but only led by one point at halftime. The Broncos then outscored Hay Springs 14-12 in the third quarter. Mullenâ€™s three point lead proved to be enough as both teams were only able to put eight points on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter.
Gabe Connealy led the Broncos with 18 points followed by Riley Rice with 13, Jake Spies 9, Nathan Vinton 8 and Zach Call 7.
