Carolyn Ann Collier passed away at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney March 21, 2012. She was born Sept. 7, 1940, to Walter and Vera (Fichter) Rieber on their family farm near Minden, Iowa.
The family moved to Blaine County, Dec. 12, 1947. She attended school in Dunning, Brewster and Taylor. She was active in volleyball and enjoyed attending dances.
She married Irvin Pollard June 24, 1957, and to this union was born a son, Kirk, and a daughter, Karla.
Carolyn enjoyed leather tooling, sewing, gardening, crafts and being in the outdoors. During the early years of her marriage they lived in Texas and Iowa. In 1963, the family moved to Nebraska, first to Brownlee and then on to Taylor. They relocated to Lincoln in 1966, and in 1969 moved to Salida, Colo. Here they owned and operated the Ponderosa Guest Ranch.
In 1975, Carolyn attended business school and worked for Lawyerâ€™s Title Company in Colorado Springs. Upon returning to Salida, she worked at Monarch Motors and then retired from working at Chaffee County Treasurerâ€™s Office.
In 1979, while attending a wedding in Dunning, Carolyn got reacquainted with Steve Collier and they were married Aug. 9, 1980. They made their home in Poncha Springs, Colo. In 2003, they became snow birds and spent the winters in Yuma, Ariz. While there, Carolyn enjoyed shopping in Mexico and taking part in activities at the park where they stayed. In 2007, they moved to Dunning.
Carolyn enjoyed playing volleyball until she was in her 60â€™s. She was an avid gardener and took pleasure in her flowers. She was able to take vacations to Canada, Poland, Germany, cruised to Mexico and also spent a summer in Alaska. While living in Colorado, she liked spending time at the family cabin at the base of Mt. Shavano.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Vera Rieber; her fatherin-law, Wayne Collier; great-grandson, Keldon and her precious dog, Muffin.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Steve Collier; son, Kirk Pollard and wife Phyllis of Peyton, Colo., and their children Desirae (Rick) Parker of San Antonio, Texas, Rusty (Jennica) Pollard of Provo, Utah, Levi (Kelsey) Pollard and great-grandson, Logan of Dickinson, N.D., Chase Pollard and Kandi Pollard of Peyton, Colo.; daughter, Karla White and husband, Jeff of Peachtree City, Ga., grandsons JJ Grady of Boulder, Colo., and Ryan Grady of Peachtree City, Ga.; sisters, Marlene (Norval) Van Diest of Dunning, Phyllis (Jim) Wilhelm of Sheridan, Wyo., Sandi Rieber (Gene Sullivan) of Le Mars, Iowa; brother, Merlyn (Sharon) Rieber of Macedonia, Iowa; mother-in-law, Zona Collier of Lewellen; brother-in-law, Wally (Becky) Collier of Dunning; sister-inlaw, Ginger Christenson of Brighton, Colo.; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial services were Saturday, March 24, at the Open Bible Church in Dunning, with Pastor Ralph Mc Cay officiating.
