Charline C. Bendig, 90, of Kearney, died Monday, March 14, 2011 at Mt. Carmel Home Keens Memorial. A memorial mass was Tuesday, March 22, at Mt. Carmel Chapel in Kearney with the Rev. Tom Mullowney officiating. Interment was at the Newport Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Carmel Home Keens Memorial in Kearney. On-line condolences may be submitted to osafh.com. O'Brien Straatmann Funeral Home in Kearney was in charge of arrangements.
Charlene was born at Anselmo March 28, 1920, to Charles and Ernestine (Bamesberger) Mohatt. She received her education in Anselmo. She was married to Willard Garner Oct. 24, 1939. During the 40's and 50's she ran a nightclub. She also sold magazines, worked at a bakery and as a bartender. She lived in various places including California, Rockville and Ravenna.
After Willard's death she was married to Arthur Bendig in Fremont June 10, 1989. They made their home in Fremont before moving to Kearney.
Charlene was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont. She was a hard worker. She enjoyed dancing and time spent with her family.
Survivors include her husband of Kearney; sons, Bill Garner and his wife, Sandra of Oregon, and Tim Garner and wife, Jackie of Washington; daughter, Susie Quillian of Hawaii; step-children, Dave Bendig of Fremont, Lori Nelson of Broken Bow, Karen Swisher and husband, Jim of Halsey and Teresa Stadler and husband, Dickie of Axtell; sisters, Mary Schmitt of Broken Bow and Joann Hammond of Texas; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; 16 step-grandchildren and 12 great-step grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willard; son, Daniel Garner; two brothers and four sisters.
