Cleo Peterson, 68

Cleo June Peterson, 68 of Grand Island, died Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at her home, with her family at her side. Services were Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at the Evangelical Free Church in Hastings. A private burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery in Trumbull. Memorials are suggested to the Gideons International or the Evangel-ical Free Benevolent Fund. Apfel Funeral Home of Grand Island was in charge of arrangements.Cleo was born Feb. 24, 1944, in Ansley, to Leo and Blanche (Hammer) Anderson. She grew up in Arcadia and received her education at Comstock, graduating in 1962. She was united in marriage to Leroy Peterson May 20, 1962, in Comstock. The couple lived in Grand Island where she was employed by the U.S. Postal Service. In 1964, the couple moved to Trumbull. In 2005, they moved back to Grand Island to be closer to their family. Cleo was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Hastings where she and Leroy belonged to the “Senior Seekers” Bible Study group. She worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years. She was a past vice-president of the Retired League of Postmast-ers. She was voted the “Best Grandma Award” for 28 years in a row by her grandson, Tyler. Cleo enjoyed sitting on her deck listening to the birds. She also had a knack for getting her African Violets and Christmas Cacti to bloom. She enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, knitting, and baking. Cleo and Leroy enjoyed playing cards and polka dancing. She loved playing games with her family, especially Aggravation, Dominoes, and Yahtzee. Her greatest enjoyment in life was her family, she always put them first! Survivors include her husband, Leroy of Grand Island; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Laurie Peterson of Grand Island; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Brian Burge of Stockton, Mo.; daughter-in-law, Audrey Peterson of Hastings; sisters, Donna Longenecker of Grand Island, Emma Stefka of Broken Bow, Mary Stefka of Ord, and Betty Thompson of Grand Island; sister-in-law, Roseann Anderson of Grand Island; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Janet Anderson of Farmington, N.M., Vernon Anderson of Lennox, S.D., and Theo Anderson of Grand Island; grandchildren, Tyler and his wife, Andrea Peterson, Brice Peterson, Jenifer Peterson, Dylan Peterson, Lindsey Peterson, Ethan Peterson, Rebecca Peterson, and Stephanie and her husband, Michael Barnett; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cleo was preceded in death by her parents; son, Andrew Peterson; sister, Roberta Bland; brothers, Ival Anderson and Keith Anderson; infant grandchildren, Phillip Peterson, Rachel Peterson, and Tori Peterson.
