DeEtta R. Newman, 91

DeEtta Florene (Catlett) Newman went home to the Lord May 1, 2014.

She was the second child of George and Vera (Matthews) Catlett, born in Ansley, Dec. 14, 1922. She graduated from Central City High School.

July 12, 1942, she married Paul Newman in Kahoka, Mo. To this union four children were born: Jannet, Pauletta, Rodney and Lori.

Dee, as she was affectionately known, was a homemaker, famous for her cinnamon rolls and card playing. She and Paul traveled the U.S. building nursing homes and lifelong friendships. They had many adventures exploring the communities and regions they were based in; North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Florida, New Mexico, Colorado and Pennsylvania. They retired to Central City.

Dee was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; daughters, Lori and Pauletta; parents, George and Vera; brothers, Cliff, Ted and Jim; and sister, Avis.

Dee is survived by her daughter, Jannet and John Furrow; son, Rodney Newman and Kathy Calindrino; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Ethel Doremus and Levia and Eldon Maxson; sisters-in-law, Rose Catlett, Marilyn Catlett, Ester Newman and Zella Newman; and brother-in-law, Paul Fusby.

Funeral services were May 7, 2014, at First Christian Church in Central City, with inurnment at Central City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home in Mullen, and Litzenberg Long Term Care in Central City. Funeral arrangements were handled by Mullen Funeral Home.
