Don E. Roth, 86

Don E. Roth, 86 of Arnold, died Jan. 25, 2011, at Stone Hearth Estates in Gothenburg. Donald Everett Roth was born to William and Clara (Erb) Roth in rural Seward County, Jan. 30, 1924. He passed away Jan. 25, 2011.
He attended rural schools in Seward and Custer County through eighth grade. In his early teens, Don was baptized in a Mennonite Church near Broken Bow, where the family attended.
He left home to work on a farm near Arnold in 1939. He later began following the harvest through the central states. After a few years he purchased his own equipment and continued that work until he retired.
In 1945, Don went into the Army where he served for two years.
He married Betty Lou Baumiller Nov. 30, 1955, at Bismark, N.D. While they maintained their home in Arnold, they lived in a house trailer and traveled with the harvest.
They joined the Baptist Church hin Arnold in April 1991, where they remained faithful members until their deaths.
Betty passed away Dec. 7, 1991. Don continued to live in his home in Arnold until 2009, when he moved into an assisted living home; temporarily in Broken Bow and then in Gothenburg where he resided until his death.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harold and Paul; sister, Ardis Bare, and brothers-in-law, Ivan Bare and Gaile Eichelberger, and sister-in-law, Doris Roth.
He is survived by brothers, Lauren of Yakima, Wash., Lyle and Joyce of Smith, Alberta, Canada, and William and Maxine of West Point; sisters, Laura Mae Eichelberger of Albany, Ore., Marilyn and Earl Sherman of Los Angeles, Calif., Grace Roth of Wichita, Kan., Marlene and Merle Kauffman of Fontana, Calif., and Lois and Glenn Oesch of Salem, Ore.; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Jan. 29, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Arnold. Interment was in the Arnold Cemetery with Military Honors. Arnold Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Bill and Kitty Vogel for their continual help and kindness to Don. Their special attention made his last years much easier.
