Duane Hall, 74

September 29, 2011

Duane E. Hall, 74 of Brewster, passed away Sept. 24, 2011, en route to Kearney by Life Flight.
Duane was born April 17, 1937, to Loren and Lois (Sellers) Hall, in Wellfleet, at the family home. He was the eldest of two sons.
Duane graduated from Maxwell High School in 1955. He was Valedictorian of his class. He furthered his education at the Grand Island School of Business.
April 8, 1962, Duane was married to Lula Waine "Luane" Grandley, until her death Aug. 19, 1995. They have one son, Brian W. Hall.
Duane ranched alongside his father Loren in Maxwell, until the construction of the interstate system forced them to move. After an exhausted search they found a new place in the Sandhills of Nebraska, nine miles northeast of Brewster- they would start over again.
The year was 1966, and it was winter. The 135-mile trip was hard to say the least. The bitter cold caused countless delays - from jelling fuel to flat tires, but perseverance prevailed and they were soon moved into their new life; a place that Duane loved. Being as hard working and dedicated as he was he managed to build and grow a successful ranch, with his son at his side.
After the death of his wife, Luane, he met and married Lela Wright at the Open Bible Church May 31, 1997. With this marriage Duane's family grew with the addition of Lela's three children - Matthew, Danny, and Stephanie.
Duane and Lela spent the next 14 years working side by side. Through her loving devotion and dedication she helped him grow, financially, mentally, and spiritually.
Duane's ranch was his hobby. He loved to work. Farm sales were also hard to pass up. If he ever came across a junkyard, you could forget the rest of the day because we would be ripping out nuts and bolts for future use on the ranch.
His other passion was his church and the people that surrounded him. Sunday was his favorite day. Not only did he get to slide into his Cadillac and enjoy the scenery on his way to worship, the fellowship and the music always touched his heart.
Duane is survived by his wife, Lela, of Brewster; his children, Brian (Jackie) Hall of Omaha, Matthew Wright of North Platte, Danny (Sara) Wright of North Platte, and Stephanie (Tyler) Moorhous of Ogallala; his brother, Glen (Tammy) Hall of North Platte; nephews, Rob Hall, Trever Hall, Daren Hall, Kylee Hall, Colby Hall, and Quentin Hall and their families; grandchildren, Danyelle, Denton, Devon, Kaitlyn, Cody, Cole, and Brooke.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his first wife Luane.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Sept. 28, at the Open Bible Church in Dunning, with the Rev. Ralph McKay officiating. Burial was at the Floral Lawns Cemetery at North Platte.
Memorials have been established to the Open Bible Church in Dunning. Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow was in charge of arrangements.
