Edwin Payne, Sr., 71

Edwin Payne, Sr., 71, of Purdum, passed away Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow.
Edwin was born Jan. 1, 1940, to Gerald and Julia Payne in Spalding. The family lived in Erickson, where Edwin and his brothers completed high school.
Edwin was united in marriage to Areline Edelman May 22, 1960. Their marriage blessed them with three sons; Larry, James, and Edwin Jr.
Edwin and his young family moved throughout the state of Nebraska until he found his home in Purdum and opened a mechanic shop in 1969. By 1975, Edwin had discovered his real passion in life and began his legacy and family business, Payne Well Drilling. Over the years Edwin fabricated most of the businesse’s equipment and produced his very own signature windmills. Edwin and Areline lived, loved and worked the rest of their lives in Purdum. Edwin James Payne Sr. will always be remembered for his tinkering and for the love he gave his family, friends, and customers.
The celebration of Edwin’s life was Nov. 19 at 11 a.m. at the UCC Church in Purdum, with Pastor Judy Cook officiating. The service was followed by a private interment.
Edwin is survived by his wife, Areline; his sons, Larry (Eileen) of Elm Creek, James of Halsey and Edwin Jr. (Roxannie) of Dunning; grandchildren, Treena, Kerri, Chelsa, Eric, Gary Lee, Kacie and Amanda; great-grandchildren, Frank, Larry, Jonathan, and Conner; brothers, Gale and Richard, as well as many nieces and nephews.
