Elaine Martindale, 81

Elaine M. Martindale, 81, of Holdrege and formerly of Elm Creek, died Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, at Phelps County Health Center in Holdrege. Funeral services will be today, Dec. 16, at 11 a.m. at the O’Brien Straatmann Funeral Home. Chaplain DeWane Dow will officiate. Interment will be at 3 pm at the Brewster Cemetery. Memorials will be established in her name. Online condolences may be submitted to O’Brien Straatmann Funeral Home of Kearney is in charge of arrangements.
Elaine was born to George and Marion (Baker) Wilkinson, Dec. 25, 1928, in Dunning. She grew up in Brewster and graduated from Brewster High School in 1946. She then attended Kearney State College and earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in English and Library science. She was married to Eldon Martindale Nov. 16, 1947, in Brewster. She taught school in Mullen for three years. They moved to Elm Creek in the fall of 1969. She worked for the Educational Service Unit as director of media department for 15 years. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Holdrege. Her hobbies included painting and gardening.
Survivors include daughter Claire A. Olson and husband Gayle of Holdrege; sons, Jay R. Martindale and wife Kathie of Brewster, Mark E. Martindale and wife Dee of Funk, and Glen L. Martindale of Whittington, Ill.; four grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and son Donald Martindale.
