Fern Lanham, 96

Fern Arlene Lanham, 96, of Arnold, died Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.
Fern was born Aug. 7, 1914, in Boone County Iowa, to Olive (Whalen) and Grover Sturtz. Fern moved to Nebraska at the age of 3, to the Middle Loup River on a ranch. They later moved to a ranch north of Whitman and later to the Sturtz Ranch north of Stapleton. After graduation from Mullen High School in 1932, she married Robert Lanham March 17, 1936. They moved to Arnold where they raised four children, Zandra Kyne, Sharon Storkan, Douglas Lanham and Donna Bond.
Fern’s favorite things were gardening, reading and fishing in the later years she loved traveling.
Fern was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 1974; her parents; her brother, Jim Sturtz and his wife, Bonnie, of Stapleton; her son-in-law, Leonard Kyne; and granddaughter, Coleen.
Survivors include her children, Zandra Kyne of North Platte, Sharon (Bob) Storkan of California, Douglas (Carlene) Lanham of Arnold, and Donna (Wayne) Bond of Tuthill, S.D.; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were at the Arnold United Methodist Church, Wednesday, July 6, 2011 with the Rev. Roger Gillming officiating. Burial was at the Arnold Cemetery. Memorials may go to the Finch Memorial Library in Arnold.
