Fred Werner, age 83, of Broken Bow, died August 14, 2012 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Memorial services will be Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, at 10 a.m. at St. Anselm's Catholic Church in Anselmo with Father Jim Hunt officiating. Inurnment will be in St. Anselm's Catholic Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Fred and Alice Werner family scholarship fund at the Custer County Foundation in Broken Bow or St. Anselm's Catholic Cemetery preservation fund. Christian Wake Service will be Friday at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow
Fred was born July 18, 1929 at Grand Island, to Albert and Helen (Schmitz) Werner. Fred graduated in 1948 from St. Mary's High School in Grand Island. He married Alice Leonard, a classmate, on April 26, 1957. Fred worked as a self employed painter and decorator. He spent two years in the Army stationed in Germany. He enjoyed visiting his many relatives living there. He loved retirement at the family ranch, the B-B, in Anselmo.
Hard work, friends, family and the Lord were most important to him.
Survivors include his wife, Alice of Broken Bow; son and daughter- in- law, Dr. Tom (Lynne) Werner of Grand Island; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa (Dr. John) Carr of Avondale, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Adam and Jane Werner, Justin, Jessica and Taylor Carr; sisters, Eleanor Lewandowski of Loup City and Elizabeth Wanamaker of Lincoln; one brother, William (Bill) Werner of Grand Island, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brother, Albert (T.D.) Werner of Grand Island, and a sister, Helen Jean Toth of Pennsylvania.
