Fred A. West Sr., age 78 of Broken Bow, died May 24, 2011 at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow. Funeral services will be Friday June 3, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Govier Brothers Chapel. Visitation will be today, Thursday from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary with family greeting friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Interment will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Mr. West was born July 19, 1932, at Broken Bow, to Perley and Mary (Northey) West. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952-1956, where he served as a radioman. After returning from duty he received his education as a surveyor and civil engineer.
He also received his associates degree in Theology and served as a Baptist pastor in the 1970s at a church in Florida. Fred worked as a surveyor and civil engineer and was licensed in Florida, Nebraska, Wyoming and Texas. He was the Custer County Surveyor for many years. He loved Broken Bow and Broken Bow loved him.
Survivors include three daughters, Jill McCamis of Lithia, Fla., Eme Shumock of Valrico, Fla., and Susan Bistolfi of Valrico, Fla.; two sons, Fred West Jr. of Salt Springs, Fla., and Randy West of Bradenton, Fla.; one brother, Bill West of Broken Bow; one sister, Connie Sittler Tilletson of Salt lake City, Utah; and a sister-in-law, Sherry Sittler Cain of Broken Bow.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, P.J. West, Richard West and Jerry Sittler.
