Gary Peterson, 69
Gary Lee Peterson, 69, of Springville, Calif., passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014, in his home. There will be a celebration of Gary’s life at the American Legion Club in Stromsburg Saturday, July 19 at 5 p.m. All family and friends are welcome to attend. Gary was born in Omaha, Dec.12, 1944. He graduated from Stromsburg High School in 1963. Gary began farming after high school, although he helped on his parents’ farm growing up. He joined the National Guard in 1965 and served for 6 years. Gary married Susan Baker on June 24, 1967. To this marriage, they were blessed with four daughters, Tami, Chari, Kristi and Mindi. May 20, 1997, Gary married Susan Bargerstein in Springville, Calif. This union brought 3 children, Ursula, Vanessa and Joseph, into the family. Gary farmed east of Stromsburg and had cattle for 20 years. In 1982, he purchased the Central Nebraska Commission Company in Broken Bow. He moved his family to Dunlap, Iowa in 1985 to farm, and then went on to open a repair shop. In 1987, he returned to Stromsburg and opened Pete’s Repair. In 1995 he started trucking and then in 2002 he purchased Paradise Honey Farms with Susan. Gary was mechanically inclined, he loved to tinker. He enjoyed being outdoors, football, drag racing, Nascar, fishing, boating, and his honeybees. He enjoyed hearing about his grandkids.Gary had won several local fishing tournaments. He was a Legionnaire for many years, as well as being a past commander. Gary is survived by his wife, Susan; daughters, Tami (Todd) Peterson-Fenton of Broken Bow; Chari (Ryan) Peterson of Stromsburg; Kristi (Tim) Brazda of Stromsburg and Mindi (Cory) Roth of Loveland, Colo.; step-children include Ursula Pappis of New York, Vanessa Navarro of San Diego, Calif., and Joseph Bargerstein of Vitaly, Calif.; grandchildren include, Tylee Fenton, Jaimee Klein, Sydnee Goossen, Hallee Goossen, Preston Goossen, Connar Brazda, Cade Brazda and Anslee Roth; step-grandchildren are Brianna and Vincent Pappis, Harvey, Eddie, Victor and Rachael Navarro; sisters, Gloria (Ed) Packard of Lincoln; Clare (Kurt) Quandt of Stromsburg; and brother, Mark Peterson of Lincoln; step-sisters, Shirley Peterson, Vanita (Richard) Burns; and step-brother, Doug (Sunny) Holm. Numerous nieces and nephews, other family and friends. Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Ina (McCord) Peterson; and step-mothers, Alice (Oberg) and Majorie (Holm);and brother Gregory.
