Memorial services for Gaylene Louise Young, age 68 of Bastrop, Texas, formerly of the Sargent area, were Monday, April 30, 2012, at the Catholic Church in Sargent.
Born June 24, 1943, in Loup City, to Omer and Maxine Johnson, Gaylene passed unexpectedly in her home April 19, 2012, in Bastrop, Texas with her loving husband Bruce Young as always right by her side.
She was united in marriage to Bruce Young June 11, 1961, in Sargent. After entering marriage, Bruce and Gaylene lived together in Lincoln for three years, Thousand Oaks, Calif. seven years, Napa Valley, Calif. 30 years, and the past six years in Bastrop, Texas. Her interests included family, gardening, sewing, traveling, scrap booking, and cleaning.
She devoted much of her time to both gathering and entertaining family and friends. In regards to her love of gardening, her husband Bruce wrote, "She could turn an ordinary weed into a beautiful flower."
Gaylene leaves to mourn, her husband of 51 years, Bruce Young; daughter, Voni and son-in-law Michael Dickson of Bastrop, Texas; son, Jeffery Young of Napa Valley, Calif.; sister, Janie and husband Lanny Weverka of Sargent; brother-in-law, Larry and wife Shirley Young of Sargent; sister-inlaw, Yavone and husband Dick West, of Oracle, Aiz.; 10 grandchildren, Michelle Louise Furlow and husband Ty of Smithville, Texas, Bruce Fraser Dickson, Coral Rose Dickson, Ashley Ann Dickson, Hayden Christian Dickson, Destiny Viola Dickson all of Bastrop, Texas, Justine Barnes Young, Jaylene Louise Young, Jessica Irene Young all of Napa Valley, Calif.; and three great-grandchildren, Adaline Rose Furlow, Shaley Annmarie Furlow, Noah Tuck Furlow of Smithville, Texas, many nieces, nephews, and loving friends.
A memorial service was also held April 23 in Bastrop, Texas
Gaylene was preceded in death by her parents, Omer and Maxine Johnson, and brother-in-law, Lyle Young
