Funeral Services for Hazel I. Goings were conducted at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Wednesday, April 9, 2014, with Pastor Linda Knipping-Potts officiating. Interment followed in the Prairie Home Cemetery.
Hazel Irene Goings, 94 years of age, of Bertrand, formerly of Holdrege, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014, at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege.
Hazel was born March 6, 1920, on the family farm in Harlan County, the second of three children born to Leroy “Roy” and Annie “Ella” (Urbom) Ranz. She attended primary school at a country school in Harlan County later graduating from the Atlanta High School with the class of 1938.
Hazel was united in marriage to Merton Goings May 25, 1941, and this union was blessed with four children: Joan, Robert, Fred and James. The family made their home in Axtell, where Merton taught and coached basketball and football. Merton and Hazel also began farming south of Atlanta at this time. Hazel worked at Becton-Dickenson until her retirement.
Hazel was a member of the Mascot-Bethel Evangel-ical United Brethren Church. She served as the Sunday school teacher.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merton in 1995; brother, Robert Ranz; and sister, Maurine Kirby.
Hazel leaves to mourn her passing, her children: Joan Moon and her husband, Heath of Burbank, Calif., Robert Goings and his wife, Evelyn of Gothenburg, Fred Goings and his wife, Mimi of Papillion, and Jim Goings and his wife, Carol of Broken Bow; 10 grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
