Helen L. Blakely, 96 of Broken Bow, died Oct. 2, 2010, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home at Broken Bow.
Funeral services were Oct. 6, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow with Father Jim Hunt officiating. Interment was at the Broken Bow Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Dunning Cemetery. Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow was in charge of arrangements.
Helen Louise Blakely was born Nov. 26, 1913, to Samuel and Sarah "Sadie" (Pennison) Thomas, the fourth of five children. She grew up between Mason City and Litchfield.
May 28, 1935, she was united in marriage to Emery Lee Blakely in Broken Bow. They resided on a ranch north of Dunning until they moved to Broken Bow in 1969. To this union two sons were born.
She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, cooking for family and friends and quilting. Helen made and hand-quilted hundreds of beautiful quilts in her lifetime, some being sent as far away as Florida and Alaska. Her quilts will be treasured by many.
Helen is survived by her children, Lowell (Norma) Blakely of Dunning, and Gilmer Blakely of Sargent; daughter-in-law, Gloria Blakely of North Platte; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and a host of specials friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Florence Klitzman, Henry Thomas, Mary Craven, and Frances Tully; and special niece, Sarah (Craven) Donner.
