Helen A. Cole, 91

October 4, 2012

Helen Cole, formerly of Merna, died Oct. 1, 2012, at Heritage Hall in
Broken Bow. Funeral services were Thursday, Oct. 4, at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Helen was born Nov. 5, 1920, in Chicago, Ill., one of seven
children born to Joseph and Anna Zubrzycki.
She was very creative with her hands. Her artistic nature came out in the wedding cakes she baked and decorated, quilts she designed and
sewed, and letters written to her grandkids in her beautiful
handwriting. With a loving heart, she created hundreds of sewn,
knitted, and crocheted pieces to give away.
She enjoyed raising a bountiful garden for 60+ years, always sharing
the fruits of her labor.
Her family will forever be thankful for all the photos she took and
the many albums she created highlighting her family journeys. She
captured birthday parties, track meets, baseball games and holidays -
always saying "Wait, wait," as she was trying to get the perfect shot.
Helen was a wonderful cook, often adding a touch of artistry there
also. Her fried chicken was the centerpiece of many family picnics in
the mountains.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil with whom she enjoyed extensive travel and winters in the South. Helen's greatest love,
however, was her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Chuck and his wife Sue, and Gary and his wife Beth, all of Merna; grandchildren, Valerie Cole of Miami, Fla.,
Laura (Aaron) Brooker of Omaha, Holly Cole of Kearney, and Jeff Cole
of Lincoln; and one great-grandson, Elias Brooker of Omaha.
