Indians win first team title of season

GIBBON -- The Broken Bow Indian track team had their best outing of the season as the boys won the Gibbon Invite last Thursday. The Indians, who scored 122.5 points, finished 22.5 points ahead of second place St. Paul. The Lady Indians finished in fourth place, just four points from second place Wood River. Shelton won the girls division with 109 points.
Broken Bow’s only gold medalist of the day was Nathan Scott who won the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Scott also won two second place medals as a member of the 400 and 1600 meter relay teams.
The Indians had many who finished in the top three of their respective events. Joining Scott in the relays were Alex White, Justin McCullough and Tanner Briggs in the 400 meter relay along with White, Michael Scott and Tyler Kozisek in the 1600 meter relay. Briggs also placed second in the 110 and 300 meter hurdles and White placed second in the 400 meter dash with Darrin Ostrander following in third place. Claiming second and third in the 800 meter run was Andrew Pracht and Kozisek. The Indians also won second and third place medals in the 3200 meter run with Cody Dierking edging Patrick Wright to the finish line. Wright then placed second in the 1600 meter run. Chad Christensen was the top medalist in the field events placing third in pole vault.
Earning second place medals for the Lady Indians was Taylor Pearson in the 400 meter dash and Gabe Minnick in the 100 meter hurdles. Third place medals were awarded to Brittany Leverington in the 300 meter hurdles, Shyann Cochrane in pole vault, Katie Loughran in long jump, Tressa Ripp in shot put and to the 1600 meter relay team of Pearson, Minnick, Leverington and Kelsie Myers.
This past Monday, several Indians represented Broken Bow at the Central Nebraska Classic in Grand Island. See next weeks issue for results. Results from the Gibbon invite are as follows:
