Jerrold Alan Gardner, 74
Jerrold Alan Gardner, 74, of Mitchell, died Monday, June 09, 2014, at the Mitchell Care Center surrounded by family and friends. Jerrold was born on Dec. 8, 1939, in Lexington, he son of Ira and Ruth (Anderson) Gardner of Broken Bow. He was a loyal and devoted husband of 50 years to Virginia (Reinhard) Gardner from Callaway, and a loving father to Marjorie. He attended the University of Nebraska Lincoln and spent 40 years as an engineer with the Nebraska Department of Roads.He received many awards for his meritorious service. His happiest moments were spent fishing with his father in Wyoming. He enjoyed hiking, hunting, and camping with his family. He will be remembered for his sensational breakfasts that he served on those trips. Jerrold especially enjoyed traveling to Estes Park, Colo., with friends Mike and Alma Johnson to view the elk each fall.Spending every Christmas in Wisconsin with his grandchildren also became an annual tradition. Jerrold was a master woodworker, able to produce furniture and models of professional quality. He restored a MG Midget Roadster which Marjorie enjoyed through her high school years. He also loved to play the piano and the trombone. A purveyor of smiles and good cheer, his positive attitude and love of life endeared him to all. His battle with cancer was short but intense. He will be dearly missed by his surviving, wife, Virginia,;daughter Marjorie (Brian) Connors of Mt. Horeb, Wisc.,; grandchildren, Alexis and Breanna Connors.; sister, Judith Gardner Hoffman and her husband Erwin and family of Champaign, Ill.; one sister-in-law, and five brothers-in-law. The family is especially grateful to Mike and Alma Johnson for their lifelong friendship, Bill and Delores Monheiser, the exceptional care of Dr. Bjorling, the nurses at Regional West Medical Center, and Rebecca with Prairie Haven Hospice. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
