Joan Horine, 76
Joan Horine, 76, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, at her home in Broken Bow. She was born July 25, 1934, to Joseph and Ingaborg (Fossum) Knoll in Virginia, Minn. She grew up in Minnesota, until her family moved to Santa Monica, Calif., during her junior year of high school. She graduated from Santa Monica High School in 1952. She married Leroy “Pete” D. Horine, Jr., Dec. 5, 1968, in Minden. They relocated many times over the years, living in California, Nebraska, Color-ado and Arkansas. They settled down in Broken Bow in 1980. Over the years, she worked as a secretary, school bus driver, bookkeeper, and store clerk. She worked at Gibson’s in Broken Bow for many years. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, painting, reading, and doing crossword puzzles. She loved animals and had several beloved pets over the years. She was a member of the Faith Bible Fellowship. To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was known as “Nana.” Her family fondly remembers Sunday dinners at Nana’s house, and joyful holidays spent enjoying her delicious home-style cooking and playing Yahtzee. Survivors include her son, Scott Horine of Grand Island; seven grandchildren, Jay Lindholm and wife Lisa of Gothenburg, Josh Bailey and wife Hope of Colorado Springs, Col., Jodi Jordan and husband Dusty of Urbandale, Iowa, Jared Bailey of Kearney, Wyatt, Morgan, and Evan Horine of Broken Bow; three great-grandchildren, Tracy Jay, Skye Anna, and Rhett Lindholm. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brothers, John Knoll and Bill Marwick; her sister, Grace Kingsley; and her daughter, Vicki Bailey. Funeral services were Feb. 14, 2011, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Broken Bow with Pastor Bob Winn officiating. Burial was in the Minden Cemetery with Iverson Memorial Chapel in charge of arrangements. Memorials are suggested to the Faith Bible Fellowship.
