John Hammond, 78

John Eli Hammond was born Dec. 13, 1932 to Agnes and William Hammond of Broken Bow, and passed to eternal life Oct. 12, 2011, after complications of Alzheimer's and a stroke. The funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Clear Lake City, Texas, and he was buried Oct. 15, 2011 at the Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, Texas.
Jack, as he was known, played fullback on the football team and graduated from Broken Bow, with the class of 1950. He married his high school sweetheart, Joan Mohatt, daughter of Charles and Anna Mohatt, Aug. 19, 1952.
John leaves behind his wife of 59 years Joan; four daughters, Cathy and her husband, Greg Akromis, and two children, Hilary and Preston; Beverly and her husband Mike Hammond, and two children, Rachel and Joshua; Jenifer Hammond, and Mary Wells and her husband Chris Wells, and three children, Austin, Hailey, and Chloe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Agnes Hammond; brother, Leonard Hammond, and sister Alnetta Evans, wife of Bruce Evans.
He is survived by one sister, Angenette Adams-Denisia and her husband Don Denisia of Broken Bow; five brothers and their wives, Marvin and Pearl Hammond of East Stroudsburg, Penn., Robert and La Rue Hammond of Kearney, Bill Hammond of Ceresco, Earl and Beverly Hammond of Biloxi, Miss., and Larry and Marlis Hammond of Carmel, Ind.; a host of nieces and nephews and many, many friends.
Now he is happy and without pain resting in the arms of Jesus.
