Johnny McCarty, 86

Johnny R. McCarty, 86 of Grand Island, died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. Cremation has taken place and burial of ashes will be at a later date in the Dale Valley Cemetery at Merna. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family.
Mr. McCarty was born Oct. 6, 1925, at Merna, the son of Michael and Irene (Dale) McCarty.
Survivors are a brother, Lawrence (Mike) McCarty of Seattle, Wash., and 12 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Rachel Kapke and Lenora Richardson; sisters-in-law, Eleanor McCarty and Catherine McCarty; and brothers, Leonard McCarty, Sr., Charles McCarty and James McCarty.
Johnny was raised at Merna until the age of six. He lived at Beatrice for many years and returned to Broken Bow where he lived in a group home until he fell ill at the age of 67. He lived at Fullerton Manor and in 1998 moved to Golden Living Center at Park Place in Grand Island.
He was employed by Becton-Dickenson in Broken Bow as a contract employee for many years while living in the group home. Johnny enjoyed working, seldom missing any days and was honored with a commendation for work attendance.
He was of the Catholic faith his entire life. Johnny enjoyed his dog 'Snoopy' while in the group home. Later, he collected stuffed animals as a resident at Park Place. He was well liked by residents and staff alike.
Memorials are suggested to Mid Nebraska Individual Services in care of All Faiths Funeral Home.
