Joseph Goeden, 84

Joe Goeden age 84 died Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at the Jennie Melham Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Memorial services were Tuesday, April 10, in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow with Father Jim Hunt officiating. Burial was in the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery with Govier Brothers Mortuary in charge of arrangements. The family requests that memorials be given to the Broken Bow Library or the donor's choice.
Joseph H. Goeden was born March 2, 1928, to Joseph N. and Mathilda (Kast) Goeden in Gregory County, S.D He had brothers Emil, Othmar, Adolph and Andrew, all of whom have preceded him in death.
His five sisters, Elsie Weibel, Pauline Determan, Mary Wackel, Dorothy Determan and Micki Fox completed his family of 12. Mary and Mick reside in Rapid City, SD, and so do sisters-in-law Audrey (Othmar) and Dorothy (Andrew) Goeden.
Joe attended Gregory, SD High School and graduated from Grand Island Business College after a year in the US Navy. He was united in marriage to Shirley R. Swift June 5, 1948. To this union four children were born; Michael, Roger, Janet, and Steven.
He leaves to morn his passing, his wife Shirley of Broken Bow; sons, Dr. Michael and wife Michelle of Fredericks-burg, Virg., Roger of Broken Bow, Steven and wife Tarry of Santana, Calif., and daughter Janet Johnson and her husband Jerry of Omaha. He shared the joy of 12 grandchildren, seven great -grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews along with many friends.
He was a lifetime member of the Catholic Church, baptized and confirmed at St. John's at Paxton, S.D. He has resided in Broken Bow for the last 63 years, where served on various boards. Joe and co-workers Willard Keller and Butch Brunken operated Gateway Motors, Inc. until his retirement.
