Katherine L. Drake, 74 of Kearney, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
A memorials service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at the O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney with the Rev. Stan Murdoch officiating. There will be no visitation. Burial will take place at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Heartland Hematology and Oncology. Online condolences or personal reflections may be submitted at www.osrfh.com. Katherine L. Drake was born Nov. 27, 1938, to Joseph and Leta (Fuller) Gunther in Broken Bow. She graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1957.
Katherine was united in marriage to Sherril Drake in Coquile, Ore., Jan. 1, 1958. They moved to Kearney in 1973. The couple owned and operated the Crossroad Standard filling station for several years. Katherine most recently worked at Wal-Mart where she retired from in 2000. Her hobbies included playing bridge, camping and traveling. Kathy will always be remembered for her kind heart and gentle spirit. She was a precious blessing to every life she touched. She truly loved, lived for and cherished her family and friends.
Survivors include her husband, Sherril of Kearney; son, Ron Drake and wife Jolinda of Kearney; daughters, Sherry DeBord and Patti Daugherty of Kearney; brothers, Bob Gunther and wife Connie of Kearney, and Vernon Daugherty of Broken Bow; grandchildren, Kelly Miller and husband Adam, Robyn Wachter and husband Matt, Monica Epp and husband Travis, Amy Bettles and husband John, Hillary Drake and Caitlyn Drake; great- grandchildren, Rylan Miller and Rileigh Epp; and several nieces and nephews.
Katherine was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Ron Gunther and a son-in-law, Brad DeBord.
