Lady Broncos crowned LVC Champions

The Mullen Lady Broncos became the 2011 Loup Valley Conference champions last Friday night. The Lady Broncos edged the Ansley Lady Warriors 53-52 for the girl’s championship while the Trojans held on for a 53-45 win over the Mullen Broncos for the boy’s championship.
The girl’s championship game lived up to the billing as the Lady Broncos battled the Ansley Warriors point for point through the entire game. Both teams entered the game as two of the Top 10 teams in Class D2 and they played like state championship contenders. The Lady Broncos took the early advantage leading 12-11 after the first quarter but the Lady Warriors outscored the Lady Broncos by two points in the second quarter to lead 23-22 at halftime.
The Lady Warriors increased their lead to four points by the end of the third quarter. The Lady Broncos came back in the fourth quarter to take the lead by outscoring the Lady Warriors 18-13 in the final quarter resulting in the one point win.
Mullen’s Mardee Sierks led all scorers with 24 points. Also scoring for the Lady Broncos were Tricia Young with 8 points, Clara Vinton 8, Rachel Hoesing 6 and Madi Lomlinson 4. Vinton grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Broncons on the boards.
The Lady Warriors were led in scoring by Siera Rohde with 14 points followed by Tazalea Scott with 10, Taylor Rohde 9, Katie Drake 6, Kathleen Ryan 5, Kate Watts 4, Courtney Marsh 2 and Chelsea Entz 2.
