Margery "Viola" Layher, 95
Margery “Viola” Layher was born in Wolbach Dec. 21, 1915, to Edwin and Sarah Edith Layher. She lived in Greeley and Valley counties until 1929 when she moved to Broken Bow. She graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1933. Viola was a school teacher for a few years after high school, then went to work for Bow Bakery decorating cakes. She then went to work for the Custer County Highway Department for 25 years as the office manager. One of the bookkeeping systems Viola set up was used statewide. She was a wonderful seamstress and loved her God and family with all her heart. Viola and her sister Coila were faithful to read their Bibles daily and read the entire Bible several times through. She was an active member of the Presbyterian Church and Latrea Circle. Viola accepted Christ as her Savior at a young age and walked faithfully with Him her whole life. Viola was a devout Nebraska Cornhuskers fan and spent every Fall Saturday cheering on her Huskers. A particular happy memory for Viola was being able to attend a game in Lincoln with her nephew, Kenny. Her family affectionately teased her, calling her Viola McCartney Neuheisel Switzer. It got her goat every time. In her later years, Viola was completely independent until her health began to deteriorate at age 92. She came from a long line of women with a strong constitution, living to the age of 95. Viola was known for her many gifts and talents, her kind heart and her strong love for her family. Her great-nieces and nephews loved her as another grandmother. Viola went home to be with the Lord Jan. 7, 2011, after enduring a difficult time of suffering here on Earth. She was loved dearly by her family and all who knew her and will be missed deeply. We love you Aunt Vi. She was preceded in death by her three sisters, Mae Adee, Mabelle Beck and Coila Linville; her nephew, Kenny Linville; niece, Darlene Neutzman, and great-niece Wendy Jo Linville. Those left to honor her memory include her nieces and nephews, Mark (Lisa) Linville, Teri (John) Hunt, Talli (Ryan) Kratochvil, Larry (Rita) Neutzman, Jr., Julie (Les) Mintzmyer, Patti (Michael) Deal, Jackie Linville, Larry Neutzman, Sr., and many great-nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
