Martha F. Beeken, 76

Martha Frances Beeken, 76, was born Nov. 22, 1934, in Thedford, to Cecil and Lottie (Swisher) Herbaugh. She grew up and graduated from high school in Thedford.
She married Tom Beeken and together they had five children. Martha and Tom lived on the ranch in Gandy for many years. She was a member of Extension Club and a 4-H leader. She assisted every year with the Gandy alumni party. She also received several commendations for her leadership with 4-H.
Martha attended Mid Plains Community College to learn about carpentry and spent many years working in and around Arnold and Broken Bow. She loved helping people fix up their homes and cooking for others.
She loved attending community events and visiting with her friends. She was an excellent card player.
Martha also loved to read, do crafts, go to garage sales and tell jokes. She always had one handy, no mater where she was. She was the hostess for many family dinners and always invited anyone she knew that would be alone. She also loved working at the local food bank and with the podiatrist.
Martha is survived by her sister, Judy (Larry) of Missouri; children, Patty (Steve) of Omaha, Terri (Rex) of Plattsmouth, Tommy (Brenda) of Valentine and Kelli (Mark) of Arnold; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Lottie Flora; her brother, Dennis; and ex-husband, Tom Beeken.
Funeral services were Dec. 18, 2010, at the First Baptist Church in Arnold. Inurnment will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Martha Beeken Memorial Fund, PO Box 141, Arnold, 69120. Arnold Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
