Mary Harmon, 88

Mary K. Harmon 88, of Grand Island, died Nov. 11, 2010, at Golden LivingCenter Lakeview.
Mrs. Harmon was born May 26, 1922, in Mullen, to Clyde W. and Sofie K. (Johansen) McCully. Mrs. Harmon received her education in Lyman, and graduated from Lyman High School.
She married Oral Harmon June 1, 1940, in Stanford. Mary was a wonderful mother and homemaker. She worked with her husband as they farmed near Morrill for eight years. They then moved near Thedford where they ranched. Oral and Mary moved to Grand Island in 1966.
Mrs. Harmon was employed at Delicious Foods, and then at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant. She later worked at Leon Plastics in Alda for more than 22 years, and retired in 1993.
Mary and Oral were instrumental in the planning and organization of Third City Christian Church. When the church first began, they met in the Harmon home. She and Oral were charter members of Third City Christian Church.
Mrs. Harmon loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She enjoyed quilting, and made many beautiful quilts. She was also an excellent baker. Mary enjoyed her flower garden, and loved animals and the things of nature.
Survivors of the immediate family include one daughter, Helen Walford of Ft. Collins, Colo.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ray (Dorothy) Harmon, Gene (Cheryl) Harmon all of Grand Island, and Roger (Julie) Harmon of North Platte; one sister and brother-in-law, Ethelyn (Burdett) Thompson of Sargent; 18 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oral in 1992; a granddaughter, Delaina Smith; and one brother, Joe McCully.
Funeral services were Nov. 15, 2010, at Third City Christian Church. Pastor Scott Jones officiated. Burial was at the Ansley Cemetery. Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Memorials are suggested to Third City Christian Church.
