Just before dawn April 6, 2013, Melva Jean Warren left this earth for her heavenly home. She was born July 10, 1924, in her grandparentâs home in Republic County Kansas to Marshall Allen and Sylva May Beecher, the oldest of three children.
She rode a horse seven miles to District 9 Republic County Country School through 6th grade, and later drove a horse and buggy. She started her high school years at Chester High School and graduated from Belleville High School in 1942.
After graduation, she worked nights as a practical nurse in the Belleville Hospital, and cared for as many as 18 patients on three floors.
In 1946, she enrolled at Bryan College in Dayton, Tenn., but in her third year her father was killed in an automobile accident and she came home to help her family.
Melva married Richard Victor Fredrick âFredâ Warren April 30, 1952. To this union were born four children, which together they raised on the ranch north of Dunning, and where Melva lived for the next 61 years until her death.
Melvaâs teaching career began in 1950 in Kansas where she taught in a small country school. She earned her degree in elementary education from Kearney State College in 1972. She taught grades kindergarten through eight with specialties in music and gifted studies, in various locations, including Dunning and Halsey schools and several area country schools. To Melva teaching was a calling that she enjoyed immensely, saying it just got better every year!
Melva had many interests and never grew tired of learning something new. She was known for the afghans she loved to crochet and give to her friends and family.
She is survived by three daughters, Colleen McDaniel, Melody and Dean Coleman, and April and Kevin Wescott; son, RV and Gretchen Warren; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Ray Warren, Melissa and Jeff Hopper (Nicholas, Kayleigh, Lauren), Natalie and Joseph Cool (Samuel, Silas, Elijah, Sophia), Lester and Jenna McDaniel (Mayim), Mary Ruth and Larry Harrell (Aiden, Avari ,Austin), Matthew and Katie Coleman (Josiah, Anna, Chloe, Daniel), Aaron and Sara Coleman (Caleb, Luke), Rachel and Tyson Cox (Kyle, Kallan), Adrien and Jakob Youngblood, and Ashley Wescott; brother, UJ Beecher of Orrick, Mo.; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by husband Fred Warren; mother and father Marshall and Sylva Beecher; sister, Charlla Boise; brother-in law, Max Boise; and sister in-law Betty Beecher.
She will be greatly missed!
The family requests that, if friends so desired, donations may be made in Melvaâs memory to Blaine County Rescue. c/o of Govier Brothers Mortuary, 542 South 9th Avenue Broken Bow, NE 68822
