Oatmans honored with 'Lifetime Achievement Award'

Vern and Velma Oatman honored Friday in Hastings.

Vern and Velma Oatman were honored Friday evening at the State High School Rodeo in Hastings with a rodeo ‘Lifetime Achievement Award.” As part of the presentation, Bill Manning, the president of the Mid-States Rodeo Association, said that the Oatmans have done more to promote and support High School Rodeo than anyone he knew. Vern in his remarks accepting the award said that they have a 2-year-old great-grandchild, so they would be around a few years longer.

Also honored Friday were Sargent cowboy Rowdy Moon as the Nebraska State High School Rodeo 'Bull Fighter of the Year.' See this Thursday’s Chief for more the State High School Rodeo Finals.
