Paul Scheffler, Jr., 93

Paul H Scheffler, Jr, 93, died April 8, 2014, at Mt Carmel East Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He was born Dec. 2, 1920, in Philadelphia, Pa., to Paul H. and Amelia (Schneider) Scheffler. He was preceded in death by sisters Edna, Florence, Ella and Viola and brother Edward. Most of his childhood years were spent in Fox Chase, Pa., where a semi-rural environment shaped his love of the outdoors and fielded interest in horses. During WW II he served as a Sargeant in the US Army Air Corp from 1942 to 1945. He was stationed in Cuba in 1943, and Saipan through 1945 where he served as a crew chief on a B29 bomber. He graduated from Drexel University in 1948 with BS in Mechanical Engineering and was elected to Pi Tau Sigma, the mechanical engineering honors Society and to Tau Beta Pi, the premier engineering honors society. He recognized that his education was a pivotal point inhis life and in appreciation he has established several scholarships at Drexel for promising engineering students. After graduating, he was employed by the Westinghouse Electric Corporation as an aerospace engineer in Philadelphia, Kansas City and Lima, Ohio. During a 30-year career he was registered as a professional engineer in the states of Kansas, Ohio, Virginia and Florida and was awarded seven US patents.With an astute business sense and entrepreneurial spirit, he designed and developed several commercial complexes in Ohio, shipyards and industrial facilities in Norfolk, Va., hotels in Florida and Georgia and a large cattle ranch in Custer County, Nebr. In 2007, he retired from cattle ranching and relocated to Pickering-ton where he began his fourth career as an active stock market investor in order to fund several charitable programs. Over the years, he resided in Pennsylvania, Missouri, Ohio, Virginia, Nebraska and in his later years wintered in Alabama, Mississippi and Florida, where he made many good friends. In 1943, he married Jacqueline Satin of Philadelphia. Their first child, Paul H.Scheffler III, died at birth. Surviving children are Peter Michael Scheffler who resides in Boulder, Colo. with his wife Susan (Young), and daughter Susan Scheffler who resides in Amelia,Va. After Jacqueline's death, he married Nelita (Nicki) Allen in 1999, bringing into his family step-son Michael Allen and wife Ann ofPickerington, Ohio and stepson Jonathan Allen and wife Aimee of Wilmington, NC. Surviving grandchildren are Rev. Jason Aaron Micheli, Lisa Christine Micheli, Paul James Scheffler and Kirk Andrew Scheffler, step-grandchildren, Marie Allen, Elena Allen, Michaela Allen, Ryan Allen and Baylee Allen, and great-grandchildren, Alexander and Gabriel Micheli. He was a member of and benefactor to Epiphany Lutheran Church in Pickerington and a winter member of Holy Spirit Episcopal Church in Gulf Shores, Ala. Dwayne R. Spence Funeral Home and Crematory has been en-trusted with the arrangements. Memorial donations can be made in his name to a charity of one's choice or to Epiphany Lutheran Church.
