Robert "Bob" Ruzicka, 81

Robert Rudolph Ruzicka, 81, of Taylor, died April 26, 2011 at his home. The family will have a memorial service Friday, April 29, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Bob’s home in Taylor, with a celebration of his life to follow. Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell is in charge of arrangements.
Bob was born June 6, 1929, at Taylor to Emil and Anna (Hulinsky) Ruzicka. He grew up at Taylor and Burwell and attended Burwell Public School.
Bob enlisted in the United States Army in 1951. He completed basic training and leadership school at Ft. Riley, Kansas. He was deployed to the 4.2 Heavy Mortar Unit in Korea as a squadron leader and Sergeant. September 12, 1953, he returned to the United States where he served the remainder of his eight years in the United States Army Reserve, active status, until September 1959, when he was honorably discharged. Bob was a decorated soldier. He received a Combat Infantry Badge, a Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star and the United Nations Service Medal.
Bob was married to Anna Belle Craven July 18, 1953. Six children were born to this union, Cynthia Ruzicka of Broken Bow, David and Peggy Ruzicka of Checotah, Okla., Dawnetta and Mervin Johnson of Burwell, Bryan Ruzicka of Hemingford, Doreen and Craig Van Diest of Taylor, and Bradley Ruzicka of Hesperia, Calif. Bob is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Marie Michalski and Dorothy and Bob Frye all of Ord.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Anna; two sisters, Blanche Olivia and Irma Kruml; a brother, William “Bill” Ruzicka; and a great-grandson, Brody Ruzicka.
Bob was employed by Stake Construction Company at Lennox, S.D. from 1949 until 1974. He returned to Taylor in 1974, where he owned and operated Ruzicka Repair and B&B Mobil. He also served as the Mayor of Taylor for several years.
Bob enjoyed being with his children and grandchildren, camping, fishing, hunting and wood working. He took great joy in gardening and raising flowers. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Taylor and enjoyed the community of Taylor.
