Robert Charles Miles died June 2, 2014, at Pioneer Memorial Rest Home
in Mullen. He was 88. He was born March 3, 1926, in Arnold, to Austin and Mae Lester Miles..

Robert lived two miles northeast of Brownlee, until 1938 when the
family purchased the Higgins ranch southeast of Brownlee.

Robert went to grade school in Brownlee and graduated from Thedford
High School in 1943.

In the fall of 1944 he was drafted into the Army.
He took his basic training at Fort Hood, Texas, and spent a month at Fort Ord in California, before being shipped overseas in February 1945.

He landed in Manila on the island of Luzan in the Philippines where he
was assigned to an ordinance company. After the war he was shipped to Korea as part of a medical hospital unit. Robert was honorably discharged from the Army in August of 1946.

In 1951, Robert married Kathleen Shanley at St. Joan of Arc Catholic
Church in Brownlee. To this union three children were born, Marian, Colleen and Matthew.

Robert and Kathleen ranched with Robert's parents until 1962 when they
moved south of Brownlee and went into ranching for themselves. They
retired in 1991 and moved into Thedford.

Robert was a loving husband and father and a good neighbor. He was generous with his time and possessions. He loved music and could often be heard whistling or singing. Robert was an avid fisherman and enjoyed the Lord's great outdoors. If something was broken, the grandchildren
would say, "Grandpa will fix it."

Robert served on the Brownlee and Thedford school boards, the NRD and
ASCS boards and was a KBR board director.
