G. Verlene Talbot, age 86, of Broken Bow, passed away March 26, 2011, at the GoldenLiving Center in Broken Bow.
Sandy Talbot was born Oct. 15, 1924, the third child of Wendell and Edna (Jacobsen) Cosner. She was born at Lillian, and attended school at Lillian, graduating from Gates High School in 1942. After high school, she attended Omaha School of Beauty. Returning to Broken Bow, she started as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company until her retirement in 1982.
Her life was drastically changed at the local roller skating rink where she met the man of her dreams, Bun. He skated up to her and asked her if she was aware that her rear wheels were rolling forward.
They were married on a beautiful sunny Dec. 18, 1949, at Lillian.
They bought their first and only home at 835 South 6th, in Broken Bow, where they resided until her illness.
Into their union came three daughters, Carol Marie, Wendy
May and Ann Marlene. They all knew what a screw driver was before age 3.
She enjoyed spending time at the lake, her garden, the farm, Nebraska Cornhusker football, bowling with her friends, her church, crocheting and most importantly, spending time with her family.
Sandy would be the first to offer assistance to a neighbor or lend a helping hand. She volunteered her talents as a beautician at the nursing home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Harry and Edith, her son-in-law, Martin and grandson, Jared.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Marvin R. 'Bun'; Carol and Dan Rowedder of York; Wendy Wilson of Alliance; Ann and Bill Seeger of Lincoln; five grandchildren, Travis and April Rowedder of Osage, Iowa; Nathan and Ryla Rowedder of Ankeny, Iowa; Robert Seeger and fiancé Kaytlin Williams of Lincoln; Alyssa (Rowedder) and Nolan Sollenberger of Davenport, Iowa and Elizabeth (Seeger) and Adam McIntosh of Paducah, Ken., four great-grandchildren, Daniel, Devon, Dezerae and Judson.
Her wishes were to be cremated and interred at the Merna Cemetery, Merna, with her husband at her side in the family plot.
Condolences may be sent to Bun Talbot, 2 Crappie Corner DR 5, Johnson Lake, NE 68937. Memorials are suggested to the AseraCare Hospice, or the Alzheimer's Unit at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow.
A graveside service for the immediate family will be held at a later date.
