Snow and wind expected over weekend in Central, North Central Nebraska

Winter Storm Watches have been issued by the National Weather Service (NW) for much of Nebraska.

A Winter Storm Watch in effect Saturday evening through Sunday evening for the following Nebraska Counties : Sheridan, Eastern Cherry, Western Cherry; and including the cities of Gordon, Rushville, Valentine, Cody, Eli, Merriman, and Kilgore. Heavy snow is possible. Plan on difficult travel conditions. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 6 inches are possible.

A Winter Storm Watch is in effect Sunday morning through Monday morning for the followng Nebraska Counties: Keya Paha, Boyd, Brown, Rock, Holt, Thomas, Blaine, Loup, Garfield, Wheeler, Logan, Custer, Lincoln, Hayes and Frontier; and including the cities of Springview, Spencer, Butte, Lynch, Ainsworth, Bassett, Rose, Oneill, Atkinson, Thedford, Halsey, Dunning, Purdum, Brewster, Taylor, Burwell, Bartlett, Ericson, Stapleton, Broken Bow, North Platte, Hayes Center, Curtis, Eustis, and Maywood. Heavy snow is possible. Plan on difficult travel conditions. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 6 inches, with localized amounts up to 8 inches, are possible. Significant reductions in visibility are possible.

Key points: A band of heavy snow could develop across Northwest Nebraska affecting Sheridan and Cherry Counties Saturday night. This area of snow would weaken Sunday morning. A new area of heavy snow may develop across Central Nebraska Sunday morning and continue into Sunday night. Heavy blowing and drifting snow may continue Monday morning in this area. Heavy snow and very low visibility, around ¼ mile, during periods of heavy snow. Drifting snow- 6-8 inches of snow and strong winds may produce drifts around 2 feet.
