Stanley E. Wenquist, 64
Stanley Evald Wenquist, 64 of Broken Bow, passed away Feb. 6, 2011, at the Jennie M. Melham Medical Center. Funeral services were Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, at the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow.
Stanley Evald Wenquist was born Oct. 18, 1946, in Grand Island, to Inna (Koebel) and Evald Wenquist. He was a life- long resident of Broken Bow. He attended and graduated from Broken Bow High School with the class of 1964.
He was married to Judith Gardner Aug. 14, 1966. They had two children; James Daniel and Jenifer Ellen.
Stan began his career working at the family business, Wenquist, Inc. He worked briefly for Arrow Motors then went on to work in the parts department at Ruff Motors, now Gateway.
He ended his career with Gateway as the parts manager when he bought into Wenquist, Inc. in 1980. He retired from the store due to health reasons and sold it to his son, Dan, in July 2007.
Retirement was short but full of adventures. He and Judy bought an RV and traveled to Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Minnesota, Iowa and Kansas. Stan, Judy and their dog Ellie enjoyed their time together and the people they met along the way.
Stan loved technology. He could be found in front of his computer night and day, usually on eBay buying or selling. He really enjoyed reading and recently found a new addiction; his Kindle.
He had always been interested in models and woodworking. His shop is full of projects in various stages of finish. Out of everything he loved, Stan's family was what he was most proud of. He enjoyed his grandsons, Alexander James and Ethan Vincent Wenquist, sons of Dan and Amy Wenquist, and his granddaughter Chloe Ellen, daughter of Jenifer (Wenquist) and Andy Holmquist.
He was preceded in death by his father, Evald and mother, Inna; infant sister, Nancy; and brother, Robert.
He is survived by his wife, Judy; son, Dan and wife Amy, and their two children, Alex and Ethan of Broken Bow; daughter, Jenifer and husband Andy, and their daughter Chloe of Omaha; sister-in-law, Nelia and husband Steve Hense of Lincoln; nephew, Garen and wife Victoria Miller of Lincoln; niece Leila Harrington of San Miguel, Calif., and niece Erin Peterson of Buhl, Idaho.
