Anselmo--Sterling Atkins, a 2012 graduate of Broken Bow High School, recently passed away while attending college in Chadron. He was remembered yesterday (Wednesday) at the Lonesome River Ranch’s annual production sale.
According to Steve Bohr, twelve donors pulled together the funds to buy a heifer donated by Jeff and Lisa Johnson, the owners of Lonesome River Ranch, during the sale in remembrance of Sterling. In its first showing the heifer was purchased for $2,500. After the heifer was purchased, the donors re-sold her. In the heifer's second trip around the sale ring, she was bought by an operation from Minnesota for $6,000.
The proceeds, totaling approximately $8,500, were donated to the One Box Youth Shooting Program - a program that Sterling was active in while growing up. The money that was raised during the sale will be put toward supplies and a training simulator.
