UPDATE: Highway 21 accident victim dies

UPDATE: The Custer County Chief has learned that Brett Kramer died Sunday, July 29, as the result of injuries sustained in an accident south of Broken Bow July 23. His obituary appears on the obituary page of this site.

A two-vehicle accident Monday afternoon, July 23, injured a 21-year-old Litchfield man.
The accident occurred about 2 p.m. July 23, on Highway 21 south of Broken Bow. According to the Custer County Sheriff’s Office, a pickup truck driven by 21-year-old Brett Kramer, an employee of Adams Land & Cattle, was crossing Highway 21 heading east, when he was struck by a semi driven by 51-year-old Jeffrey Karstens of Lincoln.
The pickup was hit broadside on the passenger side, knocking it into the ditch on the east side of the highway. Kramer, who was not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected and pinned under the pickup. The Broken Bow fire department and EMTs used the jaws of life to free Kramer, who was then transported to Jennie Melham Memorial Medical Center, and later to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. His condition is unknown.
Karstens, who was wearing his seat belt at the time, was not injured.
