Victor W. Watts, 92
Victor William Watts, 92, went to meet his Lord Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, at Good Samaritan Health Care Center with his wife of 57 years, Claudia, and his daughters, Lynn and Judith, at his side.
He was born Nov. 20, 1918, at Cumro, one of four sons and one daughter, of William H. and Elizabeth (Cherry) Watts. Vic and Claudia were married Sept. 5, 1953, at Lexington.
Vic farmed and ranched in the Ansley area until 1953, when he became brand inspector for the Nebraska Brand Committee, serving the Lexington area for 10 years before transferring to Alliance in 1962. He served the Brand Committee for 40 years before retiring.
He worked at sale barns at Alliance, Rushville, Gordon, Chadron, Crawford, and for local feed lots and ranchers. He will be remembered by his "coffee buddies" for his sense of humor, his jokes, and dressing up on St. Patrick's Day.
He was baptized in the Christian Church in Lexington and served the First Christian Church as deacon and various offices until failing health forced him to retire.
He was a member of the Alliance Eagles and Elks Clubs. He loved to dance and fish and was a loving grandfather to Ryan, Cheri, Lonnie, James, Allison, and Meredith; and great-grandchildren Jason and Kady.
He is survived by his wife, Claudia Watts of Alliance; daughters, Lynn Covalt of Hemingford, and Judith (Brad) Black of Oklahoma City, Okla;
grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Elmer, Clarence, Clifford and Charlie Watts; and his sister, Dorothy Carpenter.
Cremation has taken place and graveside services will later be held at the Box Elder Cemetery at Cumro, north of Miller. Reverend Walter Cline will officiate.
