Bow girl named NHSRA Queen Print E-mail
Wednesday, 02 July 2008

Image    Hastings, Nebraska was the site, and State Finals Rodeo was the sound as cowboys and cowgirls from all parts of Nebraska, and a few from Wyoming, competed for state honors last week. All competitors had one thing in mind: to qualify for the National Finals Rodeo in Farmington, New Mexico.
Four local competitors met that goal, with two others qualifying as alternates. However, the big story was yet to come for Broken Bow. Shaley Millsap, who will enter her senior year at BBHS, was named the National High School Rodeo Association’s Queen. Millsap is the second straight Bow native to win the award as Samantha Chytka held the honors last year.
Broken Bow’s Courtney Simonton was named as the alternate in 2 separate events, cutting and pole bending. Simonton’s teammate, Samantha Chytka, was also named an alternate as she competed well in goat tying.

Two other area athletes also did well as Buck Moon of Sargent and Dunning’s Tylee Coffman also qualified for the National Finals. Moon will compete in bull riding while Coffman qualified in the goat tying event. Coffman, who is just a freshman, went on to claim the female Rookie of the Year award as well.
