Thursday, 09 October 2008
ORD -- James Orr, Custer County’s Public Defender, is one of three nominees for the seat of Dist. 8 county judge. Orr was nominated by the Judicial Nominating Commission Oct. 1 at the Custer County Courthouse in Ord.
The three nominees were among 12 attorneys who applied for the position. All 12 spoke in front of the Judicial Nominating Commission.

In the next few weeks, Gov. Dave Heineman will meet with Orr, of Broken Bow, and Monika Anderson and Randy Cullers, both of Ord.
Heineman will consider the three to fill the seat formerly occupied by August Schuman, who died in June.
The 8th Judicial District includes 15 counties north and west of Grand Island, including Custer, Garfield, Greeley, Howard, Loup, Sherman, Valley and Wheeler counties.
Orr has had private practice in Broken Bow for 17 years.
He has been Custer County’s Public Defender for 16 years.
Orr received his bachelor of arts degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and his juris doctorate from Nebraska College of Law at UN-L.
He and his wife, Margo, have two children, Quentin, 17 and Paul, 13.
