Thursday, 04 December 2008
Justin Spencer, 34, of Broken Bow, was arraigned Monday in Custer County Court on a charge of felony domestic assault. The charge stems from an incident this past Saturday, when police were summoned to an Anselmo residence after a 911 call.
Spencer was taken into custody at gunpoint by Custer County Sheriff Deputy Dan Spanel, and booked in to the Custer County Jail. Custer County Court Judge Gary Washburn has set bail at $150,000 cash. A preliminary hearing has been set for Jan. 5.
Winfield Scott Copley III, 28, of Broken Bow, will be arraigned in Custer County District Court today on charges stemming from a shooting incident at Copley's apartment complex in Broken Bow Oct. 14.
Copley has been charged with first-degree assault, a Class III felony, and the use of a firearm to commit a felony, a Class II felony. The Class III felony is punishable by one to 20 years in prison, and the Class II felony is punishable by one to 50 years in prison. By law, the sentences must run consecutively.
An altercation between Copley and a neighbor, Rick Arellano, 30, ended with Arellano being taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the torso. The two men are tenants in separate apartments in a building at South G Street and South 3rd Ave. in Broken Bow.
Copley’s is one of five criminal cases listed on the docket for today’s court session.
