HALSEY -- Since 1999, women have been coming together at the 4-H Camp at Halsey to experiment with their creativity by designing wreaths, centerpieces and various arrangements with some of the most unique foliage Nebraska has to offer.
Located in the heart of the Halsey National Forest, the camp serves as the host site for the annual Gathering of the Greens, sponsored by the Central Sandhills Area Extension Service.

And according to Director Sue Pearman, this year’s crowd was the largest so far.
Women from across central Nebraska met at the 4-H Lodge and began the day by heading into the forest to gather their supplies.
Twigs, greenery, plants and grasses were cut, trimmed and assembled in to arrangements as imaginative as the women designing them.
With the warmth of a glowing fire in the fireplace, the sounds of Christmas music softly in the background, and the smell of apple cider filling the air of the Lodge, the women went to work.
They shared ideas and the goods they had collected, and at the end of the day displays of wreaths, centerpieces and swags graced the tables.
At the end of the day, each gal left with a minimum of two pieces they had created, as well as some new friends. Pearman says the extension service plans to continue the event each year as long as there is interest in the project.
