The results of a wage and income survey distributed last Friday in Broken Bow will determine the community’s eligibility for funding programs.
“With things like stimulus funds and Community Development Block Grants, there are a lot of opportunities for the community of Broken Bow,” said Leah Peterson. “This survey will open the door to a lot of things for the community.”
Peterson is the new community coordinator for Central Nebraska Economic Development District. Earlier this year, the Broken Bow City Council voted join the development district.
CNEDD and the city of Broken Bow are conducting a housing and income survey of randomly selected households within Broken Bow’s city limits.
Peterson said about one-quarter of the city’s 1,729 households will be included in the survey.
The survey results will provide information to pursue funds for community projects through state, federal, and private sources.
“CDBG funds are available to communities that fall within a certain income range, so this survey needs to be done to see if the city of Broken Bow falls in that range,” Peterson said.
The surveys have three questions -- about the number of families in the household, the number of family members in the household and the total annual income of the household.
The survey does not ask for any identifying information about anybody in the household, or the location of the household.
The questionnaires were hand-delivered to the randomly selected households in Broken Bow by community volunteers Friday and will be picked up Monday.
If residents are not home when the questionnaire is delivered, it will be taped to the door.
Residents who are not home on the pickup date may seal the questionnaire in the envelope and re-tape it to the door for pickup.
Participants will receive an envelope to seal the completed questionnaire in to ensure privacy.
“All the information is confidential,” Peterson said. “The surveys are sealed shut and opened by the CNEDD staff.”
The information will be kept completely confidential.
For more information about the survey contact Peterson at 872-1250.
