• Town hall meeting on Bow School facilities tonight
By ELLEN MORTENSEN Chief Assistant Editor
Nearly all patrons of the Broken Bow School District are in agreement that something needs to be done with the city’s elementary schools. The question now being asked of local citizens is just what do they want to do to address some of these issues. That will be the topic of discussion at a Town Hall meeting tonight, July 15 at Broken Bow City Hall, beginning at 7 p.m. Last week members of the community stakeholders committee hosted tours of both North Park and Custer Elementary schools, and the middle school and high school, giving district patrons an opportunity to walk through the buildings and form their own opinions and ideas regarding the structural issues of the buildings.
The Town Hall meeting, according to Mike Evans, will allow patrons to discuss their opinions and ideas. Evans has been serving as the liaison between the stakeholders committee and the city, as he is currently the president of the City Council. In forming the community portion of the stakeholders committee, representatives were sought from all facets of the community. Evans describes the committee as more of a small study group who is not promoting anything. “There is no agenda here, we are not for or against anything,” Evans explains. “This is just for the purposes of getting input from the community on the school’s facilities.” He says electricians, plumbers, heating and air conditioning professionals and others have also been contacted and asked to give input as well. The committee hopes to get 100 to 200 people involved in the larger study group. Because this is an issue that affects all Broken Bow School District patrons, everyone is encouraged to attend Wednesday evening’s meeting. Evans explains the meeting will be very informal, there is no organized format or speaker. “This is just a sharing of information group,” he said. |
