ARNOLD - - Hundreds of people are expected to visit Arnold again this year for the annual South Loup River Blues Festival set for Friday and Saturday at Old Mill Park in Arnold. The weekend starts Friday night at 8 p.m. with a free show by Treo. This Kearney-area band consists of six talented musicians playing everything from Bonnie Raitt to Neil Young to Bob Marley. This show is sponsored by Broken Bow radio station KBBN 95.3 FM. The Saturday line-up begins around noon with Sarah Benck, who also performed at last year’s festival. Next to take the stage will be the band, Earl and Them. Earl and Them bring an electricity to the stage that is grounded by a rich history and lasting tradition in the blues. Closing out the afternoon and early evening is Lil’ Dave Thompson (pictured above.) Thompson has come full circle with the blues. He has lived it, learned it and now seems to appreciate the rich legacy and his responsibility to the blues, this region and his fellow blues artists. Around 7 p.m., Delta Highway will take the stage. This band was nominated for the 2009 Blues Music Awards for Best New Debut Artist. The group has been on the organizers’ “must-have” list for a few years. Closing out the 16th annual festival is Big James and the Chicago Playboys. Big James has played in Little Milton’s, Albert King’s and Buddy Guy’s bands before joining forces with other outstanding Chicago musicians.
