Foundation seeks new exec. director PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 02 September 2009
Custer County Foundation’s leaders hope to have a new executive director identified within two weeks.
Sandy Christensen, who has served as the Foundation’s director for seven years, recently announced her resignation. Foundation President Karl Davis of Sargent said the board is accepting applications through the end of this week.
“Hopefully, withing the next couple weeks, we’ll have a new director,” Davis said.
Christensen announced her resignation in August. She plans to work into the month of October. She said she’s leaving the position to travel with her husband Hans. The couple lives north of Brewster.
“This job is so much fun and it’s been a great board to work with,” Christensen said. “I had a really hard decision.     I’ve been here seven years and I always said I would work until it quit being fun, but it just never quit being fun.”
Christensen said the Foundation is a “savings account for the county,” paying out funds for communities.
As director, Christensen has been responsible for planning projects and fund raisers, including the annual Custer County Foundation Gala in December. She also coordinates the Foundation’s grants and its scholarship program, which awards more than $55,000 to area high school students each year.
“She’s just done a tremendous job,” Davis said. “She was here when I joined the board and I’ve learned a lot from her.”
