Broken Bow senior Josh Arnold put the Indians on the scoreboard first in Tuesday night's Class C1 quarter-final at Chadron with this 9-yard run. By Tim Brown, Chief Sports Editor CHADRON -- The Broken Bow Indians are heading to the Class C1 semi-finals! Broken Bow’s 13-7 win over Chadron proved to be another outstanding defensive effort. After a scoreless first quarter, Broken Bow used a 3 play 32-yard drive capped by a Josh Arnold 9-yard touchdown run to put the Indians on the scoreboard with a 7-0 lead at halftime. In the third quarter, Broken Bow’s defense held Chadron on three downs forcing a punt. The Indians then took their first drive, of the second half, to the Chadron 5-yard line. On fourth down, the Indians scored when Nathan Scott hit Conrad Hueftle on a swing pass to the left side. The PAT attempt failed giving Broken Bow a 13-0 lead. Through three quarters the Indian defense kept the Cardinals from putting together any scoring drive. *Game summary and stats of the Broken Bow v. Chadron game can be found in the Nov. 19 edition of the Custer County Chief.
Broken Bow’s offense began to move the ball slowly down field, keeping the clock running. Shane McCormick was on the receiving end of a key third down pass from Scott to get the first down, keeping the ball in the hands of the Indians. After a Broken Bow fumble, the Chadron Cardinals finally put together a 65-yard scoring drive ending with an 8-yard run by Wil Brown. On the ensuing kickoff, Chadron recovered the onside kick attempt giving them possession near mid-field with less than three minutes left on the clock. Broken Bow’s defense, as they have all year, lived up to the challenge. Penetrating the offensive line on three consecutive plays, the Indians forced Chadron go for it on fourth down. With 1:31 left to play, Josh Arnold came up with the games biggest play, sacking Chadron’s Wyatt Blome on 4th and 7. Broken Bow took over the ball and in three plays, using the ‘Victory Formation’, the Indians ran out the clock. With the win over Chadron, Broken Bow will host the semi-final game against Hastings St. Cecelia Tuesday night at 6 p.m. at Mark Russell field. Hastings St. Cecelia defeated Crofton 46-14. |
